Jefferson Competes in the 2014 Torchia Classic

The Cannoneers competed in the Torchia Classic this past weekend, held at Mohawk Community Collge, coming up short in both contests.   The first night saw the Cannoneers take the court versus the Caimans of Hostos CC from Bronx, NY.  The first half was highly contested as the Cannoneers held a slim 35-30 lead over the Nationally ranked Caimans.  The second half was a different story as the Caimans came out and shot the lights out, making 9 3's against the Cannoneer defense.  Final score Hostos 85-Cannoneers 68.  Leading the way for the Cannoneers were Islam Haggag and Xzavier Brown with 13 points a piece, followed by Albert Ebouki and Javon Hunter with 10 points a piece.

The second night saw the Cannoneers take on Region III power Mohawk Valley and the story was very much the same.  The Cannoneers came out strong and led 34-32 at the break.  The second half was all Mohawk Valley and the hosts came away with a convincing 77-56 win.  Leading the way for the Cannoneers was once again Xzavier Brown with 10 points. For his efforts over the weekend, Xzavier was named to the Torchia Classic All-Tournament team.

The Cannoneers are in back in action Saturday, November 8th as they host Nationally ranked and Region III powerhouse Herkimer County Community College at 3 pm.
